Acne

Background

Acne: Acne Vulgaris

Acne is a chronic inflammatory condition affecting the pilo sebaceous unit. This is the canal through which the hair grows and into which the associated oil gland pumps oil. Pilo sebaceous units are found over the entire body apart from the palms and soles. The anatomical site at which acne develops is dependent on the activity of the oil gland. In most people it tends to be the face but in some people acne also affects the back, chest, upper arms and even the buttocks and upper legs.
