Bloom syndrome

Background

Bloom syndrome: Congenital Telangiectatic Erythema

Bloom syndrome was first described by Dr David Bloom in 1954. It is a rare inherited disorder with symptoms appearing in the first months of life. It affects slightly more males than females and is found in all ethnic groups but is more common in Ashkenazi Jews, with 1 in 100 being carriers of the gene responsible for development of the syndrome.
