Cleidocranial Dysostosis
Background
Cleidocranial Dysostosis is a condition characterised by varying degrees of hypoplasia (under-development) of membranous bones throughout the body, and is now regarded as a generalised skeletal dysplasia (disorder of bone growth affecting many bones in the body). It was first described by Marie and Sainton in 1898. The most significant and obvious abnormalities affect the head and face, although there is commonly involvement of many different bones.
