Dyscalculia

Background

Dyscalculia is a developmental, or acquired, disorder which results in specific, major difficulties when learning mathematics, particularly numeracy. Some people with dyslexia experience problems with number skills because they have problems with the language of maths or with the short-term memory and retrieval skills needed for computational work. Dyscalculia can, however, be found in pure form and appears to relate to a specific deficit in the ability to rapidly assess number quantities.
