Hemimelia

Background

Hemimelia literally means 'half limb'. By convention, this series of disorders refer to a deficiency in a skeletal and soft-tissue part which is in the 'distal' (further from the trunk) part of the limb. Usually, at least one of the two paired long bones of the arm (radius/ulna) or leg (tibia/fibula) are deficient.
