Majewski Osteodysplastic Primordial Dwarfism Type II

Background

Majewski Osteodysplastic Primordial Dwarfism Type II (MOPD II) is a form of Primordial Dwarfism which is the name given to a group of disorders where growth delay happens in the earliest development of the human embryo. In many other disorders of short stature (see entry, Restricted Growth) a baby is born with average length and a diagnosis of a specific disorder may be made by observation of other characteristics at birth or short stature may become apparent at a later stage. Babies with one of the primordial dwarfism disorders are affected by intrauterine growth retardation (growth delay in the womb) which leads to very much smaller than average size at birth. Other conditions coming under the heading of Primordial Dwarfism include Silver-Russell syndrome and Seckel syndrome.
