Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type II

Background

Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type II: MEN II

Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type II is a rare genetic disorder characterised by tumours (growths) in particular endocrine glands including the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands. The tumours secrete excessive amounts of hormones which are associated with a range of medical features. Some tumours are cancerous (see entry, Cancer). MEN II affects men and women equally and may occur at any age.
