Neurofibromatosis

Background

Neurofibromatosis (NF) is an inherited genetic disorder causing tumours on nerve tissue anywhere in the body and often other effects.

There are two main types of neurofibromatosis: NF1 caused by a defect on Chromosome 17 (ninety per cent of cases) and NF2 caused by a defect on Chromosome 22.
