Scleroderma

Background

Scleroderma (hard skin) is a disease of the connective tissue, immune system and blood vessels. Its onset is highest in the fourth and fifth decade of life and it is more common in women than men. Although it typically presents with tautness and discoloration of the affected skin, it may also affect the internal organs such as the heart, lungs, kidneys and gastrointestinal tract.
