Vitiligo

Background

In Vitiligo there is an absence of melanocytes within the epidermis.

The clinical hallmark of Vitiligo is patches of absent pigmentation giving rise to areas of very white skin, the hair may also be affected. The patches often present in a strikingly symmetrical pattern on both sides of the body, they may spread over time and are highly vulnerable to sunburn.
