You will have the responsibility to engage with potential partners in the provision of services to families caring for a child/young person with a disability or additional need approaching adulthood. Your remit will also include researching alternative sources of funding for ongoing carer support and providing impartial advice to families with disabled children. Working closely with health, education and social services you will strive to improve interagency working, including contributing to strategic level transition meetings.
Experience of working with and supporting families who have disabled children is essential, as is knowledge of the issues affecting them. Your excellent organisational and communication skills and ability to influence and motivate others will see you excel in this role. Ideally you will have experience of developing communities.

We have two fixed-term vacancies (3 years) for 2 Family Workers one to cover Norfolk and the other to cover Cambridgeshire.
These posts are funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund, as part of a Contact a Family project to empower families with disabled children in the East of England.
Each Family Worker will also work directly with families to co-ordinate the provision of advice and support to families with disabled children, especially in relation to money issues and income maximisation. Knowledge of welfare systems and experience of working with and supporting families who have disabled children is therefore essential. They will be an integral member of the family support team England wide and in their own region of East of England.

In this role you will ensure Contact a Family is taking full advantage of new media to reach families with disabled children and facilitate opportunities for them to network online and access information about support available to them.
You will expand and monitor our presence on social networking websites, and contribute to the development and monitoring of digital media on our own sites such as message boards and hosted chat room events. You will support and inspire our team of staff, parent volunteers and members of parent support groups on the use, benefits and opportunities of digital media. Also, you will help to produce content for print and web, for example edit and produce podcasts, and write articles/parent guides around new media.
You must be passionate about new media and have extensive experience of using social networking sites, ideally on a professional basis, with current knowledge of trends and an eye for future developments and opportunities. As you are working directly with parents of disabled children you must be friendly and approachable, and able to explain technology in non-technical language. The post also requires excellent writing skills for both print and web.
