All families need a range of services, ideally based or co-ordinated from one central place that is close to home. Across England, children’s centres are being developed to help families access the services they need. In Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland similar centres are also being developed to bring together locally available services.

These centres could greatly improve the lives of families with disabled children by providing appropriate information, and joining up services such as health, education, family support and care.

Thanks to funding from the Department of Heath and Department of Children, Schools and Families, Contact a Family has recently formed a children’s centre team to assist children’s centres in England develop their services for families with disabled children.

This part of the web has been developed by the children’s centre team for England but much of the information might also be of interest to people in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.
