Supporting families

Our family workers can help with any of the wide range of issues that families can face when caring for a disabled child.

We can help with:

  • providing information on local services
  • supporting parents to explore the options available
  • negotiating with other agencies such as health, education or social services
  • helping parents to access welfare benefits or other sources of financial help
  • supporting at key transition points such as starting school, moving to adult services
  • representing Contact a Family at local events and raise awareness of the needs of families.

Family workers offer support to families through periods of particular need and work to build parents knowledge and confidence.

Family workers offer one-to-one help to families caring for a child aged 0-19 years of age, with any kind of disability. They can offer support over the telephone, through home visits or at events in the local area.
