Contact a Family has a team of volunteer parent representatives throughout the UK.

Our volunteer parent representatives (known as reps) are all parents – or carers – of disabled children themselves, some with quite complex and rare conditions. They fully appreciate the impact of caring for a disabled child.

Supporting families

The role of the reps is to:

• answer telephone enquiries from parents
• provide peer support to other parents
• provide reliable information on local resources and services for disabled children
• signpost parents and professionals to local groups and organisations
• represent Contact a Family at local events and have our written information/publications available
• let parents and professionals know about the services that Contact a Family can offer
• pick up local issues and represent parent concerns, for instance in planning groups.

Representing families

Reps will be pleased to consider joining local committees and forums and planning groups, representing or presenting the wider parental view for their area.

Reps also talk to local support groups and organisations about their role and the services offered by Contact a Family.
