About national support groups

Many parents not only seek general support with issues around caring for their child and navigating the services that are available locally, but they want to talk to someone who knows what it is like to have a child with the same condition:

• Do their children have the same features or needs?
• Do other families also struggle with getting a specific piece of equipment?
• Are there strategies they can share to ease their day to day life?
• Can they campaign together to effect change to make a difference to people living with the same condition?

There are many disability support groups across the UK who provide some or all of these forms of support. They can usually help parents find good quality medical information, locate specialists in their child’s condition and meet other parents caring for a child with the same condition.
