National support groups usually spring up from one parent or more who has struggled to find information and/or support for a particular condition, it could be that the condition is rare, or perhaps nobody has wanted to set up a group previously.
Contact a Family are aware of the value that support groups have to the families they support and are happy to offer support to parents wishing to start a group from scratch or those who have been offering support for many years and are looking for information on a particular issue.
We offer support in a number of ways:
Whatever the condition, Contact a Family can give your group access to a dedicated officer who can answer your questions on a wide range of topics such as how to get started, attracting and keeping members and fundraising.

We produce a directory of medical conditions. The contact details of national groups can be listed in our directory, if appropriate.
Your details will be held on our database, which is used by the helpline and the local offices to direct enquirers looking for groups who provide either general support or support for a specific condition.
All groups can receive a free copy of Connected, our quarterly magazine.
We produce regular e-newsletters, on general news, parent participation and rare disorders. You can sign up to receive the newsletters for free. If you do not have regular website access copies can be posted out.
