Cookies

What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files used in a wide range of websites which are stored locally on your PC. They generally contain information about your visits to the relevant site. Sometimes if you have to login to a website you may see a checkbox which says "Remember me next time" - this generally sends a cookie to your PC which contains your login name.

Where are cookies used in www.cafamily.org.uk?
We use cookies in three ways on our site:
1. to ensure you don't receive our pop-up questionnaire more than once in 30 days.
2. to count how many different pages of the Contact a Family Directory Online you have visited in the last 30 days (not used if you subscribe).
3. to verify that you have a current subscription and to save you having to login every time you visit the site.

Why do we use cookies?
1. From time to time we use a popup to consult our visitors on various issues facing parents of disabled children. We use these consultations to try to get a better deal for such parents. Obviously nobody wants to keep seeing a popup they've seen before so we use a cookie to record the first time you saw it and to not show to you it again within thirty days.
2. In order to fund the work of the Contact a Family Directory online we require a subscription for anyone visiting more than five different pages in any thirty day period. Every time you visit a page from The Contact a Family Directory online it registers as one of your free accesses. We us a cookie to store the number of pages you have visited.
3. On your sixth access (within thirty days) you will be required to login as an existing subscriber or purchase a subscription. By storing your username in the second cookie we are able to automatically recognise you as a subscriber and - providing your subscription is current - we can pass you seamlessly to unlimited number of pages without the need for you to login every sixth page.

At no time do we store or retrieve any information other than that described above. No personal information about you is stored on our website or within cookies. We never pass any information we may have about you or your visits to this site to anybody else.

How to ensure cookies are allowed on your browser.
Cookies will work only if your browser allows them. Most browsers come already allowing cookies of the type we use but some are set to block them and this may lead to problems such as the popup appearing every time or a failure to login correctly.
