UPDATE: 12,000 free computers with assistive technologies for children with disabilities in England

Jul 14 2010

Assistive technology is designed for children who experience barriers to using a computer. The Home Access programme, aimed at low-income families with school-age children who may not be able to afford a computer or the internet, is now offering computer packages to 20,000 children with learning or physical disabilities.

For your child to be eligible, you must answer the following questions:

  • Do you live with and receive child benefit for the child you wish to apply for?
  • Is your child in school years 3-9?
  • Is your child in full-time education in a state-maintained school in England, or local education authority or government funded school in England?
  • Is the child you are applying for eligible for free school meals?
  • Does the child you are applying for have an SEN Statement and/or receive DLA.

Also, if you are receiving child Tax Credit, you must live in a household with a combined income of no more than £16,190. However, if anyone in your household is receiving Working Tax Credits, then your child will not be eligible for the scheme.

For an application form, call 0333 200 1004.
