Volunteer parent representatives
Our volunteer parent representatives are all parents of disabled children and offer peer support and local signposting.
How we can help
Information, advice and support
We offer information, advice and support to parents and carers of children with any special need or disability as well as professionals working with families.
Workshops and conferences
We organise workshops and conferences for parents (which professionals can sometimes attend) based on local interest. These are an opportunity for parents to come together and share their experiences. Previous topics have included the needs of siblings, transition and negotiation skills.
Newsletter
Contact a Family North East produces a quarterly newsletter. It offers information on sources of local support, events, topics of interest to families such as benefits, holidays and national organisations. Training
We can provide training to professionals and groups on issues that affect families of children with special needs.
Group support
We offer support to the development of new parent groups and help to strengthen existing groups.

Debt advice in Gateshead and Newcastle
Contact a Family has entered into a pilot project with Citizens Advice Bureau to improve the supply of face to face debt advice to families with disabled children. Gateshead and Newcastle form one of the pilot areas in which the new service has started. It offers home visits for families anywhere in Gateshead or Newcastle.
