Autism: Let’s Talk – Dimensions Event in Celebration of World Autism Awareness Day
Date: Monday 22nd March 2010
Time: Daytime Session 1.00-4.30pm and Evening Session 5.30-7.30pm
Location: Denton Burn Community Centre, Newcastle
Description: Informative and practical sessions designed to share good practice in supporting people with Autism Spectrum Disorders. The afternoon will consist of presentations on top ten things to know when your child with autism becomes an adult; behaviour support and autism and information on Assistive Technology. The evening will be more informal and open and provide an opportunity to speak one to one with Dimension’s specialist consultants. Activities will be provided for children during this session

National Autistic Society help! Programme Durham
Date: Tuesday 23rd March 2010

Location: Abbey Leisure Centre, Pity Me, County Durham
Description: help! provides support for parents and carers of school aged children, young people and adults who have a recent diagnosis of an ASD. This particular one-day programme is free to parents and carers of children between the ages of 3 and 12 who have been diagnosed with ASD within the last 18 months. The programme sessions cover: What are autism spectrum disorders – an overview; Tips for communication; Practical strategies for education and educational rights/law, accessing support services and benefits.
Cost: Free with light refreshments and a sandwich lunch.

Jamboree Alice in Wonderland Spring Party

World Autism Awareness Day Conference
Date: Wednesday 31st March 2010

Description: Speakers at the conference will include Joshua Muggelton, a young person with Asperger Syndrome who is currently studying for a degree in Psychology at the University of St Andrews in Scotland; Sarah Best, a Local Campaigns Officer at the National Autistic Society who will talk about the implications of the ground-breaking Autism Act 2009 as well as recent policy developments relating to education and children's services and Marian Bateson a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist who will focus on Communication issues in ASD

North East Ability Counts Football Fun Day Festival
Dates and locations: Sunday 11th April at Newcastle University

Times: All festivals will run from 11.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.
South Tyneside Football Trust, in partnership
with the County FA, are running fun day
festivals to encourage as many children as
possible to participate in the newly formed
junior league which will be kicking off in 2010.

Aiming High Gateshead Family Fun Day

Description: A day for Gateshead families with young people aged 0 – 19. Activities include use of the sensory rooms, sensory cave and ball pool, cinema room, arts and crafts, outdoor play area and gardens. Northumberland Dads Sunday Fun Day

Daisy Chain Open Day
