Our volunteer parent representatives are all parents of disabled children and offer peer support and local signposting.
The Contact a Family freephone helpline is staffed by experienced advisers and is a one stop shop for parents and other family members caring for a disabled child. Our advisers can help with:
Information, advice and support
We offer information, advice and support to parents and carers of children with any special need or disability as well as professionals working with families.
Workshops and conferences
We organise workshops and conferences for parents (which professionals can sometimes attend) based on local interest. These are an opportunity for parents to come together and share their experiences. Previous topics have included the needs of siblings, transition and negotiation skills.
Newsletter
Contact a Family West Midlands produces a quarterly newsletter. It offers information on sources of local support, events, topics of interest to families such as benefits, holidays and national organisations. The newsletter is available to both parents and professionals free of charge.
Training
We can provide training to professionals and groups on issues that affect families of children with special needs.
Group support
We offer support to the development of new parent groups and help to strengthen existing groups.

Contact a Family has entered into a pilot project with Citizens Advice Bureau to improve the supply of face to face debt advice to families with disabled children. The Stoke-on-Trent,Walsall and Wolverhampton CAB area is one of the pilot areas. This project is not currently able to offer home visits for families, although the service will provide this in the future. Appointments can be made to see the debt adviser, at Stoke-on-Trent,Walsall and Wolverhampton CAB. Contact our helpline on 0808 808 3555 to make an appointment.
