Craig Bowman
Craig Bowman is a recently retired Edinburgh solicitor practicing in the areas of commercial and property law. His interest in the work of Contact a Family Scotland coupled with his legal background are an invaluable resource for the organisation as a whole. He joined the Advisory Committee in 2003.
Ian Coldwell
Ian Coldwell is a senior partner in a leading Public Relations firm in Edinburgh. Prior to this he was group community relations manager with Centrica Plc having previously led the British Gas area communications teams. He was also a member of the Business in the Community Task Force on Cause Related Marketing. Until 1995, Ian was PR Manager for Edinburgh Council and has played a wide variety of PR roles in both public and voluntary sectors. Ian holds an Advanced Professional Diploma in PR and was made a Fellow of the Chair of the Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) in Scotland having been twice Chair of the CIPR from 2000 – 2002. He is also Director of Dance Base, the National Centre for Dance in Scotland.
Nicky Guthrie
Nicky Guthrie has two daughters with a metabolic condition called MSUD. They are now studying at Edinburgh and Aberdeen universities. She is a befriender for CLIMB, the ‘National Information Centre for Metabolic Diseases’, and is chair of the Board of Directors of Moniack Mhor Creative Writers’ Centre.
Kevin Hutchens
Kevin Hutchens is a qualified social worker and Community Development officer with people with learning disabilities. Who works for Aberdeenshire Council Social Work Service. His skills and interests are in community development, training, national networks, the voluntary and statutory sector, knowledge and experience of funding, working with people with learning and physical disabilities. Kevin has developed a wide range of contacts in the community,voluntary sector and civil society that can be helpful to children and adults with special needs.
Christian MacLean
Christian MacLean is CEO of CHIP+ (Children in the Highlands Information Point Plus) which provides information, advice and support throughout the Highlands to the families of children with additional needs and to the professionals who work with them. With a background in education and in community development, Christian has worked with children, young people and families for 30 years, largely within the voluntary sector in Scotland, and has held a range of development and management posts.
Kirsten Stalker
Kirsten Stalker is Professor of Disability Research in the Faculty of Education at Strathclyde University. After graduating from York University in 1977, Kirsten worked with people with learning disabilities and as a community worker before studying for a social work qualification at Edinburgh University. She went on to study for a PhD in social work on the subject of short breaks for disabled children. She then worked for four years at the Norah Fry Research Centre, University of Bristol, which conducts research about disabled children and people with learning disabilities. In 1991, Kirsten moved to the Social Work Research Centre at Stirling University and, in 2006, to Strathclyde University. She has published research about carers, disabled children and family support.
