Achondroplasia

How is it diagnosed?

Some of the medical complications that can be associated with Achondroplasia include:

  • Glue ear / hearing impairment;
  • Speech impairment;
  • Breathing problems in young children;
  • Sleep apnoea (severe snoring leading to respiratory problems) in adults, especially if weight is not controlled;
  • Hydrocephalus;
  • Spinal stenosis leading to compression of nerves to the limbs resulting in pain and/or numbness;
  • Back problems;
  • Joint problems due to leg bowing.
