Coats' disease
Background
Coats disease: Exudative retinopathy; Coats' retinitis; exudative retinitis; morbus Coats'
Coats disease was first described by George Coats in 1908. The disease is an uncommon form of retinal telangiectasia. It is characterised by congenital dilation (widening) and malformation of the retinal capillaries (tiny blood vessels), usually in one eye. It is a progressive condition most often seen in boys before the age of ten. It may be severe.
