Dermatomyositis and Polymyositis

How is it treated?

The progress of the disease is unpredictable and may include relapses. However most children with JDM will respond well to treatment which usually includes using steroids and other medications such as methotrexate. Children with JDM or JPM also need physiotherapy and an exercise programme, to help them regain strength in their muscles, as the disease is controlled by the treatment. A major difference between affected children and adults is that in children there is no association between JDM and cancer.
