Growth Hormone Deficiency
What are the causes?
Growth hormone deficiency and
multiple pituitary hormone deficiency may also occur associated with
tumours of the brain or as a secondary complication of the treatment of
childhood cancer, usually associated with irradiation of the brain.
With the more recent successful outcomes in the treatment of childhood cancer, this is an increasing cause of growth hormone deficiency. It is important that such children be seen by a specialist endocrinologist as the underlying condition can be effectively treated, but the pituitary deficiency may evolve with time.
