Haemochromatosis

Inheritance patterns and prenatal diagnosis

Inheritance patterns
Autosomal recessive

Prenatal diagnosis
Prenatal diagnosis is not currently done. As already mentioned the accumulation of iron takes many years. In children of affected individuals iron studies can be delayed until the late teenage years, and screening by mutation analysis until informed consent can be obtained. The risk to children of an affected individual can be indicated by mutation analysis of the spouse.
