Hypothalmic Hamartoma

Inheritance patterns and prenatal diagnosis

Inheritance patterns
Some people with HH are affected by an extremely rare genetic disorder, Pallister Hall syndrome. In most other cases, HH occurs sporadically.

Prenatal diagnosis
Although little is known about the origin of hamartomas, some research suggests that hypothalamic hamartomas develop during the sixth or seventh week of gestation. Diagnosis of a hypothalamic hamartoma might be possible on antenatal ultrasound, but this would need to be confirmed using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
