Ichthyosis

How is it diagnosed?

A referral to a dermatologist is required for an accurate diagnosis. Much of this is a simple clinical diagnosis (based on the skin symptoms and the appearance of the skin). Sometimes blood tests and skin biopsies (where a small piece of skin is removed for analysis) are required. Some genetic testing (on blood or saliva) is now available in the UK but it is not yet fully funded or comprehensive across the National Health Service.
