Krabbe disease

What are the causes?

Each nerve in the body is surrounded by myelin sheath. This transmits the electrical impulses to every other nerve in the body. Myelin sheath is a made up of a number of chemicals and Krabbe disease is caused by reduced activity of an enzyme known as galactocerebrosidease (GALC). This enzyme is coded for by a gene on chromosome 14.
