The Society is a National Registered Charity No. 1001198, established in 1987. It is a membership society for people with any form of macular degeneration which has led to loss of central vision. The Society's aim is to build confidence and independence for those with central vision impairment. It provides information and practical support, especially at the time of diagnosis. Services provided are a freephone helpline, counselling, magazine and professional journal in print and on tape, national network of self support groups, conferences, leaflets and information and patient support in eye clinics. The Society also sponsors research and works with the RNIB and others to lobby for new treatments and facilities.
