Moebius syndrome

What are the causes?

It is thought that Moebius syndrome is due to a more general defect of brainstem development and studies of electrophysiologic (electrical aspects of body processes) abnormalities in a number of people with Moebius syndrome suggest defects can occur at various levels of the brain in different patients. It is, therefore, thought that Moebius syndrome is a complex regional developmental disorder of the brainstem. However, other theories, such as disruption of the subclavian (collar bone) artery supply have been considered as possible causes of Moebius syndrome.
