Nephrotic syndrome

What are the causes?

In children the most common cause of Nephrotic syndrome is Minimal Change disease so called because the nephrons seem to be undamaged other than when an electron microscope is used. Nephrotic syndrome in children usually appears in early childhood.

In adults the most common cause is Membranous Nephropathy, a kidney disorder resulting in disruption of kidney function because of inflammation of the glomerulus - part of the filtering structures of the kidney.
