Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus

What are the causes?

Hydrocephalus in this age group can be caused by many things and it is important to exclude other causes such as previous haemorrhages, trauma, infections, tumours etc in order to arrive at the diagnosis of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus. Therefore there are no specific tests for Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus and the CT scans and MRI scans tend to show enlarged fluid cavities (ventricles) but often don't suggest that the pressure within the head is raised.
