Ohtahara syndrome

What are the symptoms?

The signs of Ohtahara syndrome are:

  • Tonic seizures (stiffening of the extremities);
  • Psychomotor development delay (delay in development of skills involving mental and motor development);
  • There may be later development of other neurological difficulties such as diplegia (spasticity and weakness in the legs), hemiplegia (spasticity and weakness of one side of the body), tetraplegia (spasticity and weakness of both sides of the body), ataxia (unsteady gait), or dystonia (abnormal movements with increased tone).
