Primary Immunodeficiencies
How is it treated?
Hypogammaglobulinaemia cannot presently be cured but replacement antibody treatment is available and must be continued for life. The management of this treatment is specialised and should be in the hands of a clinical immunologist.
Certain primary immunodeficiencies such as Severe Combined Immune Deficiency (SCID) are so severe that careful protection of the patient from infection until they can be treated with early bone marrow or stem cell transplantation is essential .Gene replacement therapy is also considered for certain diseases but is in its infancy. Effective treatments are available for the various different primary immunodeficiencies and early referral to a clinical immunologist is essential in all cases.
