Progressive Supranuclear Palsy
Inheritance patterns and prenatal diagnosis
Inheritance patterns
Although the cause is not yet known, there may well be a genetic component to PSP. This is currently being intensively researched. However, the probability of inheriting this disease is extremely low. There are only a handful of families across the world where siblings of a PSP patient can be shown to have the disease. This is similar to the patterns seen in Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's, where there appears to be a small familial element, but the majority of cases are seen to be generic.
