SMIRA is a National Registered Charity No. 1022673, established in 1992. It supports families and offers advice to parents, teachers, speech therapists, psychologists and other interested professionals. SMIRA is based in Leicester, where it holds national parents meetings on an annual basis. It aims to put families in touch on a regional basis, hosts an e-mail discussion group and publishes a newsletter three times a year. It has information leaflets available and also a number of publications, including a video - details on request. The Association has over 200 members.
