Stiff Man syndrome

How is it diagnosed?

Diagnosis of SMS is often painstakingly slow, simply because it is so rare and the symptoms can baffle doctors. Individuals are often initially mis-diagnosed and labeled psychosomatic. There are two important tests that can be carried out as a means to obtaining a diagnosis. One is to test for antibodies to GAD and the other is to carry out EMG (electromyelogram - muscle testing) studies.
