Tracheo-Oesophageal Fistula and/or Oesophageal Atresia
How is it diagnosed?
The main diagnostic criteria include frothing at the mouth, laboured breathing and/or blueness of the lips and fingertips. If oesophageal atresia is suspected, the passage of a rigid tube down the oesophagus from the mouth will confirm the diagnosis (if it is held up in the blind upper pouch) or exclude it (if the tube reaches the stomach).
