Inheritance patterns
Most arm and hand deficiencies are sporadic events. Inheritance in VATER association is sporadic. In TAR syndrome inheritance is autosomal recessive.

Prenatal diagnosis
Prenatal ultrasound scanning may pick up anomalies of limb development.
