There are a number of medical royal colleges in the United Kingdom. Each is responsible for a different speciality within the medical field. These colleges are involved in the training of professionals in that specialist field. They also work to ensure professionals in the field continually develop their skills. Colleges are involved in ensuring that patients receive the best care possible and work with patient groups as well as writing information for patients. In some cases, colleges will carry out audits, which is a way of assessing standards of care being delivered in certain medical fields.
