A local support group gives parents the opportunity to get together and talk. If this support has been difficult to find in your area, you might now be thinking of starting a new group but have questions about where to begin. Alternatively, you may already be involved in running a local group but need support with particular issues.

• A dedicated officer

Wherever you live, Contact a Family can give your group access to a dedicated officer who can answer your questions on a wide range of topics such as how to get started, attracting and keeping members and fundraising.

• Group action pack guides

Our group actions pack guides give information on a wide variety of topics associated with running a parent support group.

• Our local parent support group network scheme

Membership of the network scheme is open to any local group supporting parents of disabled children and is completely free of charge. Some of the benefits in joining include:

• The entry of your group’s details on the Contact a Family database which enables our helpline to refer parents to your group, where appropriate.
• A free copy of Connected, our quarterly magazine.
• A free copy of your local Contact a Family office’s newsletter. Or, if you are based in an area where we have no office, you will receive a quarterly information bulletin written specifically for local parent support groups.
