Supporting SENCOs in providing information to families

SEND Information is a two-year project funded by the Department for Education. We aim to reach all SENCOs and support them in their role of providing information on non-education issues for families that have a child with SEN or a disability. This can include information on benefits, equipment for the school or home, details of support groups and lots more. Contact a Family can help find what you need to support families:

• our information service for SENCOs can research and answer your questions on services for families – contact us at SENDinfo@cafamily.org.uk to ask a question
• we have a wide range of parent-friendly publications, podcasts and videos
• our freephone helpline is a ‘one-stop-shop’ giving advice on all aspect of caring for a disabled child, with access to interpreters in over 170 languages
• our linking service can put parents in touch with each other for mutual support.

As part of our project, SENCOs will get:

• FREE online access to the Contact a Family Directory – with information on more than 400 medical conditions and disabilities, plus details of UK support groups. Click here to register and get access

• help to work in partnership with parents.
