Contact a Family runs a London paediatric project. The project aims to:
- Provide paediatricians and health professionals in London with information about how Contact a Family can offer support to parents
- Work with paediatricians and health professionals in London to explore ways that parents of disabled children can help shape local child heath services
A key part of the role is to work with local parent and community groups who reflect the Black Minority Ethnic (BME) communities and who are willing to be involved in developing children’s services.
Examples of our work
- Working with Waltham Forest children’s services in developing a parent forum. This included running workshops to encourage parents to join and supporting them at the initial stages of running a parent’s forum
- Supporting Tower Hamlets ASD steering group in developing a new ASD care pathway. This involved running focus groups for parents, and using an interpreter when parents spoke little English.
- Meeting with consultant paediatricians and health professionals to increase awareness around the work of Contact a Family and also around the issues facing many families who have a child with a disability.
The London paediatric project officer is funded by The City Bridge Trust.
