What are overseas treks?
An overseas trek offers our supporters the perfect way to experience a once in a lifetime opportunity, whilst also helping to raise significant funds for our work with families who have disabled children.
Since we are a small charity, we do not organise the treks ourselves, but use external professional companies. This means that we can get involved with 'open' treks and adventures, (where individuals from a number of different charities trek together). This is much more economical for us.
We have good relations with all the external companies we use, and they are all experts in organising fundraising events for charities.
When do they take place?
Treks take place regularly throughout the year.
Where do they go?
Treks visit a whole variety of exciting and exotic places.
These include, trekking through the Himalayas up to Everest basecamp, along the Peruvian Inca Trail in South America, across the Great Wall in China, and cycling through Vietnam and Cambodia.
What do I have to do?
You have to choose a trip that inspires you, do any training required to ensure you are physically able to enjoy the experience, and raise the minimum fundraising requirement.
How much do I need to raise?
All participants are required to pay a non-refundable deposit directly to the event organisers. This is usually in the region of £100-£400.
All participants then need to raise a minimum sponsorship amount. This varies depending on the trip but is usually between £1,500-£3,000.
80% of the minimum sponsorship is due 10 weeks before departure.
How will Contact a Family support me?
We will support you every step of the way, equipping you with ideas, tips and inspiration to ensure that you have little difficulty in raising the funds.
The company that we use to organise the trip will support you with all the necessary practical information.
