What is the London Marathon?
The London Marathon is one of the most prestigious and exciting races in the world. The event first took place in 1981. It was the brainchild of Chris Brasher, British Olympic steeplechase champion in 1956. Currently it is sponsored by Flora and is known as the Flora London Marathon. From 2010 it will be sponsored by Virgin.

Where is it held?
The marathon is set in the great City of London – runners race pass many historical sites on route to the finishing line in St James’ Park.
How much do I need to raise?
We ask each runner to pay a deposit of £50 and pledge to raise a minimum of £1,500 for our work with families who have a disabled child.

What is the BUPA London 10,000?
This is an exciting 10K road race set up by The London Marathon Ltd and Nova International Ltd this year, i.e. 2008.

The race takes place in the City of London and passes many of London’s famous sights. The route is based on the planned 2012 London Olympics course.

The ASICS British 10K London Run first took place in 2000 and is now one of London’s major sporting events with over 20,000 runners taking part each year.

What is the Edinburgh Marathon?
This is Scotland’s premier running event, which first took place in 2003. You can take part as an individual or as part of a four person 'Hairy Haggis' relay team.

Edinburgh, Scotland. The course takes you past an ancient castle, an extinct volcano, and along a beautiful coastline.

What is the Adidas Women’s 5K Challenge?
The Adidas Women’s 5k Challenge (formerly The Flora Light Challenge and Hydro Active Women's Challenge) is organised by the people behind the highly successful Flora London Marathon. It is a 5K (3 miles) event for women of all levels and, over the last few years, has grown to be one of the biggest mass participation events in the country, with more than 25,000 taking part. In 2003, Birmingham hosted an additional event to London and in 2005 Liverpool hosted its first challenge.
