Help us to celebrate our 30th anniversary by taking part in one of these running events

The London Marathon

The London Marathon is one of the most prestigious and exciting races in the world. The event first took place in 1981. It was the brainchild of Chris Brasher, British Olympic steeplechase champion in 1956. Virgin Money has signed a five-year deal to be the official sponsor of the London Marathon as from 2010 to 2014. The London Marathon is the single biggest fundraising day on the planet and Virgin aims to make it even bigger by putting on a great show for London.

When is the next event?
Sunday, 25 April 2010

Where is it held?
The marathon is set in the great City of London – runners race pass many historical sites on route to the finishing line in St James’ Park.

How much do I need to raise?
We ask each runner to pay a deposit of £50 and pledge to raise a minimum of £1,500 for our work with families who have a disabled child.

How will Contact a Family support me?
As a member of our team you will receive a guaranteed place, support and advice, running and fundraising tips and a personalised athletic T-shirt.

The BUPA London 10,000

The BUPA London 10K (6 miles) is the country’s leading 10K Run. It is organised by London Marathon Ltd in association with ASICS, Vittal, Lucazade Sport and Capital FM.

Because of the run’s reputation, places fill very quickly. If you are keen to take part why not take advantage of our Guaranteed Placement Scheme.

Each participant will receive a medal and a goody bag.

When is the next event?
Monday 31 May 2010, (Spring Bank Holiday)

Where is it held?
The BUPA run takes place in the great City of London and will cover a section of 2012 Olympic Marathon Course. The finishing line is in St James' Park.

How do I secure a guaranteed place?
We ask each runner to pay a deposit of £30 (which is refundable) and pledge to raise a minimum of £300.

How will Contact a Family support me?
With your guaranteed place you will receive advice and guidance on how to get fit for the run and best methods of fundraising. You will also receive a running top and leaflets on our work with families caring for a disabled child. To acknowledge your fundraising efforts you will receive a ‘Thank You’ certificate.

The ASICS British 10K London Run

The ASICS British 10K (6 miles) London Run first took place in 2000 and is now one of London’s major sporting events with over 27,000 runners taking part. 2010 is the 10th Anniversary of this run and will therefore attract even more entrants. Entries are taken on a first come first served bases, therefore, don’t risk being disappointed by getting in touch with us - Contact a Family has guaranteed places in this most enjoyable run.

Each participant will receive a medal and a goody bag.

When is the next event?
Sunday, 11 July 2010

Where is it held?
The run starts at Hyde Park Corner and ends in Whitehall. The route runs along the north side of the Thames and will take you past many of London’s biggest attractions, such as St James’s Palace, Trafalgar Square, St Paul’s Cathedral, Tower Bridge, Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.

The Adidas Women’s 5K Challenge

To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Contact a Family, we are putting together a team of 30 ladies to take part in the Adidas Women’s 5K Challenge.

The Adidas Women’s 5k (3 miles) Challenge is organised by the highly successful London Marathon team. If you are planning to begin a keep-fit routine this is the ideal challenge to start with. There is no pressure to run the route; a vigorous walk will suffice.

The Challenge is light-hearted and fun, and begins with a mass warm-up in Hyde Park.

Each participant will receive a medal and a goody bag.

When is the next event?
2010 - Date to be advised.

Where is it held?
The route is within the boundaries of Hyde Park.

How much do I need to raise?
Contact a Family will receive £5 from each entrant who nominates Contact a Family as their charity. However, to celebrate our 30th birthday, our aim is to generate a team of 30, asking each member to pledge to raise £100, so that this year’s event raises a significant amount to invest in our work with families who are caring for a disabled child. To acknowledge your fundraising efforts you will receive a ‘Thank You’ Certificate.

How will Contact a Family support me?
Our Anniversary Team will receive all the support they will need to train effectively and to fundraise.

The 5K Santa Challenge

This winter we shall be putting together a team of 30 men to take part in the Santa 5K Challenge (Santa outfit is provided).

The Santa 5k (3 miles) Challenge is organised by the Skyline DoItForCharity team. If you are planning to begin a keep-fit routine this is the ideal challenge to start with. There is no pressure to run the route, a vigorous walk will suffice.

This event is quite new and has attracted around 1,000 participants each year!

When is the next event?
2010 (date to be advised)

Where is it held?
The run takes place within the boundaries of Greenwich Park in London.

If I enter this challenge, how will Contact a Family benefit?
We have reserved 30 places in this festive fun event. Every entrant is asked to pledge to raise £100 to help support the work of Contact a Family.

How will Contact a Family support me?
Our Santa Team will receive all the support they will need to train effectively and to fundraise.
